In Loving Memory...

God saw they were getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around them
And whispered, "Come with Me".
With tearful eyes we watched them
suffer
And saw them fade away,
Although we loved them dearly
We could not make them stay.
Their golden hearts stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
Our Members come to us at a very delicate time of their lives. We build relationships with them exactly where they are and sometimes the friendship is "new" every day. We have laughed, cried, and enjoyed life as we know it...together. We are moved and touched and consider ourselves very blessed to have had the opportunity to share in their lives and their families. They will forever be in our hearts.

Our "In Memory Of.." page provides the gateway for us to celebrate the following loved ones and a chance to say "Thank You" to their loved ones for sharing them with us.

Arlene "Beaner" Saunders
1925 - 2010

A Note from Darlene.....

When we first met Beaner, it was at a Spaghetti Dinner and she was a delight! She loved our place and decided to come on a daily basis. Beaner arrived with her yellow hat and ready for action! When things began to be too much for her in the middle of the day, all we had to do was play Sinatra from the Reprise Collection, "My Way".  The world stood still for a time while she sang and glided across the floor with her hands gracefully about her as if dancing with a partner. It was wonderful.

Beaner decided to change her name to Arlene, her born name, when one of our Member's of whom she befriended told her that "Arlene" is a beautiful name and she should use it. From that day on, she was to be addressed as Arlene. If you called her Beanie, she would correct you immediately!

We are deeply grateful to the Saunder's family for their request to those that loved Beaner to send donations to Selah Care Center in lieu of flowers.

Jean Francis Anderson
1921-2010

staff/JeanAnderson.JPG

A Note from Darlene.....

When we first met Jean, it was at the Blairstown Nutrition Center and she was a character! She was quick with the tongue and her dry humor. When we first met all she wanted to do was cut, cut, and cut coupons. When she joined us at Selah we found that Jean was full of surprises and could do more than use scissors! Jean had an immediate connection with our Mascot, Marco. As soon as she arrived she would find her chair and Marco was right up on her lap. She loved him. There were times when she thought it was Petunia, her long lost pup, so it made her feel happy to have Marco.

Jean loved a practical joke. She appreciated a good laugh and good music. Jean was kind to everyone and loved to share stories. She loved to tell the story of how she met her husband, George, while roller skating. She said she knew he was the one after she knocked him onto his bumm and all he did was laugh.

Unfortunately, dementia affects our loved ones in different ways. For Jean, the spirit that she had slowly disappeared before us. I hope and pray she has found peace.

Our hearts will always remember her and we are honored to have had a place in her life.

Juan Arsenio Rosario
1917-2010

staff/Arsenio.JPG

A Note from His Daughter, Ivette...

Juan Arsenio Rosario is my dad. To me he was my mother and father. He was my best friend and quilting partner. He taught me how to cook and sew, I learned from the best. Arsenio also has four other daughters that he loved very much, even if he had them all together his last 30 years of his life, he always loved them with all his heart. That made him very happy. He loved and cared for each member of his family, no matter the distance.

Arsenio's life was to help people. He loved carpentry, loved sewing, whatever you wanted; he would try to do it for you. He also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, as well as going to the casino once in a while. he loved Fridays in his last months, since that was casino night.

Dad lived for his family and we were all there for him at the end, just as we always were during his life. We were so lucky to have spent the final months of his life by his side helping him with those daily tasks that so many of us take for granted. He did so much for all of us and we were able to repay him in kindness and love, showing him how much he meant to us for all he did.

Dad was one of the kindest, most generous people anyone has ever known, as well as stubborn. he would make you laugh with his jokes that sometimes we would be laughing at him, laughing about his own joke. For a year, he loved going to Selah Adult Care where they made him so happy being there.

My dad was the center of my universe; I will miss him terribly, but know he is in a better, painless world. he will be missed always, but will live on the hearts of those of us who knew him and his legacy will continue on in our words and actions for the rest of our lives.

A Note from Darlene...

Arsenio touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. He had a grace about him that only he could wear. Arsenio was a gentleman through and through and loved each one of our staff members with a love that was so gentle and kind.

Even with his gentleness, he had a fierce competitive nature when it came to playing 500 Rummy. With his pointing finger swirling above the deck of cards as he systematically planned his next move, he would lay down his entire hand and put his opponent out! He was good! While spending an evening with Arsenio and his family, we played 26 games of Rummy. He had a passion for the game like no other. Arsenio had a love for quilting, as well. I am honored to have been gifted a quilt that was made by Arsenio and his daughter, Ivette. Our lives have been touched in so many ways by the love and support we have received from Arsenio and his entire family.

I pray God's healing for all who knew him, loved him, and enjoyed his presence. We are honored to have had a place in his life

We are deeply grateful to the Blake and Rosario family for their request to those that loved Arsenio to send donations to Selah Care Center in lieu of flowers. We would like to acknowledge the following with deepest appreciation...
